Why I Hate Being Sick - The Culinary Edition

For a brief moment in time, I actually thought I was going to get through cold and flu season scotch free...

I don't know about the rest of you, but a "simple" head cold totally ruins eating and food for me!  Here is why...

1. No Sense of Smell
First and foremost, it takes away the flavor of everything except the uber spicy mustard you have to ask for at Chinese restaurants.  I also rely on my nose for cooking...big time!  I use my nose to tell when baked goods are ready to come out of the oven, to tell if I need to add seasonings, and I enjoy the smell of the house while I cook.

2. Nothing Tastes Right
I know this partially relies on my being able to smell, but my mouth just never feels or tastes clean when I am sick.  Everything tastes like that sicky flavor and I cannot stand it!  No matter how many times I brush my teeth, rinse with mouthwash, and chew on gum I cannot get rid of that gross taste!

3. Loss of Appetite
While I like getting on the scale after I have been sick, I miss having an appetite.  I don't like knowing that my family is eating up all of the yummy food and I either don't feel like I can eat or it tastes like paste and I don't enjoy it.  Boo!

4. Nasal Drip
Even when I get my sense of smell back and food starts tasting good again, I am nauseous from nasal drip and don't feel like I can eat.
